pip coverage in Maryland?
Nationwide, we were hit 2 years ago when a lady came off an exit ramp without looking and hit our truck and rolled us 2x.
We were told by our rep that gave us our settlement check that we had 3 yrs to finish the paper work.
Nationwide says it’s w/in a year and they will not pay any of our bills, etc.
why would we not turn in our paperwork on time? I am going to call my agent and ask him what I can do?
I have 3 vehicles insured with them, adding a trailer, and I have renters insurance, spoke to pip rep and her manager, what else can I do? this is over 5k in Dr bills.

General rules on PIP coverage in Maryland:
Maryland Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage is an excellent addition to any policy of automobile insurance. It does has some limits and limitations. Listed below are some of the limits and limitations of Maryland PIP:
Maryland PIP will only pay for medical bills and lost wages up to the amount of coverage you have purchased. In most cases this is $2,500. This is a total recovery and not $2,500 each for medical bills and wages.
The most PIP coverage available in Maryland is usually $10,000.
Your insurance company will only pay for reasonable and necessary medical expenses. This means that any bill you submit will be reviewed and the full amount is not guaranteed.
Maryland PIP only covers medical bills and lost wages. It does not cover expenses such as transportation and property damage.
Any wages you submit for payment will be reviewed and only the time that the insurance company deems reasonable and necessary will be paid. In addition, only 85% of the supported wages will be paid. The best way to support a wage claim is to submit a disability slip from your doctor, listing the dates you missed from work along with your wage claim.
The availability of Maryland PIP can be effected by persons in you family that you live with if you do not have your own policy of automobile insurance.
Maryland PIP will not compensate you for pain, suffering and inconvenience that an accident causes you. Your attorney will advise you concerning compensation for these items.
Now, as to time limits: “It is important to remember that Maryland law (Insurance Code Section 19-508) allows insurers to set a one year ‘statute of limitations’ as the time in which a PIP claim must be brought from the date of the accident.” but read that carefully. You have a year to START, not finish, your claim.
Do speak to your agent, but if you aren’t hearing what you think you should be hearing…I seldom recommend this, but perhaps it’s time to talk to a good attorney.
